Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church spire

I got to a meeting on Main Street a little early a while back, and decided to make the best of my time by sketching something. I always ride my bike by the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church on 10th Ave. and always said I'd have to sketch that one day.....well, this was my opportunity!  I think a colour version is in order, though. This drawing does a decent job of capturing the form of the spire but the material palette on the building is the most engaging to me.....something I found out (too late) after drawing this, of course. Oh well...next time!

Vancouver sunset in Grandview-Woodland

A super quick colour study attempting to capture those wonderful dark-cloud-low-sunset evenings in early spring. It's one of my favorite local natural phenomena that happens pretty regularly, given the frequency of the rains.  Anyhow, this is Grandview-Woodland, near Clark Park.

Carnegie Centre Vancouver

Andrew Carnegie made a fortune in the US steel industry and then used it for many philanthropical projects including building libraries, such as this one in east Vancouver, now a community centre.

Building Projection, Nob Hill, San Francisco

Earlier this year, I had to wonderful opportunity to go to San Francisco, for the first time since I was a child.  Needless to say, I loved it in every way! The weather was gorgeous, making it easy to do a lot of biking and walking......and sketching, or course. Here is an ipad sketch of a building projection in Nob Hill. I wanted to pick up the subtle colour shifts from surface to surface.
